Each file has one or more of the following fixes:
1- include correct headers for prototypes and other definitions.
   (including changing <strings.h> to <string.h>)
2- use "0" instead of "NULL" when not using pointers.
3- putting () around assignments used as tests.
4- misc other typo fixes.
