Bobby, I haven't run into this problem with the current version of the
OSS audio dmSDK module, but the most likely place where dmOpen could be
failing with an error of DM_STATUS_INTERNAL_ERROR is in ddOpen
(specifically in openPhysicalDevice).

Try setting the environment variable ADEBG to 1 when running
memtoaudio.  Error messages will be printed, and you should be able to
tell where the internal error is occurring.  And if you can send a
patch to fix the problem, such help would be greatly appreciated.
