since the rawdevices are 'new' at least they appeared only in the recent
distributions (and redhat is using another scheme as proposed by the 
kernel docs), i don't think compatibility entries are required.

but this means to have thw raw-stuff registering to the devfs quite soon,
before too much apps are depending on the (kind of messed up) current
naming scheme.
