you are right, create_dev removes file first so it is not a problem. Which
leaves us with original idea that symlink is not yet created at this point.
Have you also compiled ide-cd in kernel? Sorry for stupid question.

If you are truly interested you could also recompile with devfs debug and
watch what happens :)
