Are there any plans to make DevFS a permanent part Linux?
Don't get me wrong, it is already a permanent part of the Kernel sources, but
it's still optional. My question is, are there any plans to make it mandatory?

Right now USBDevFS *is* mandatory if you want to use USB devices, so why
shouldn't there be any plans to make DevFS mandatory as well.

Once DevFS is mandatory, it should be no problem to unite it with the other FS
mentioned above. Further most application developer would start to develop
applications in such a way, that they don't depend on DevFSD anymore.

I personally see only advantages when the classical /dev system is finally
replaced.
