In the on-line FAQ at sez:

Another thing [...snip...] correct operation.

You will also need to configure devfsd to enable module autoloading. The
following lines should be placed in your /etc/devfsd.conf:

REGISTER        .*              MODLOAD
--------------------

Surely this should read:
LOOKUP          .*               MODLOAD
