I assume you're running glibc? In that case, talk to the glibc
maintainers. It sounds like their ttyname(3) implementation doesn't
scan /dev/pty for terminals.

You need an automounter entry, of course. And make sure your driver
modules are loaded. If you are using module autoloading, you will need
to enable support for that in your /etc/devfsd.conf file. You may also
need to tune your /etc/modules.conf file (see the comments in
/etc/modules.devfs for hints).
