I run VMWare Workstation 3.0 with WinXP and Win2k Guest Os'es. I have been very happy with XFS and had no problems with it so far. I have been using this kernel for 2 weeks now, but have been working with XFS since 2.4.14. Today, while working in my XP VMWare session, I got an error saying that VMWare could not contact the disk drive. I went to an X console and checked my syslog and discovered that my /home partition (3,9) was unmounted my XFS because of a bad superblock. I had the dreaded SB Validate problem as stated in the FAQ. I ended up doing an xfs_repair after rebooting in single user mode. I could not get the log to replay so I ended up doing another xfs_repair with the -L switch which made me very nervous. Fortunately, my partition was fixed and I lost no data. Whew! I think I was lucky. I am posting this to see if anyone might know what could have caused this and if my kernel's config could have been a culprit. I only wish I had more information like log info from the xfs_repair to post, but I don't :-( The only thing I was doing at the time was reading Outlook mail from within the XP VMWare session. If this happens again, I will be sure to document this very carefully to present next time. I am just wondering if this scenario rings any bells. FWIW, I have found XFS to be extremely reliable. It has saved my ass a number of times when I have had to do cold reboots. Many thanks, Francis
