Actually, the Mandrake folks have an excellent tool which combines the partitioning and the file system layout/specification/type construction. If you can get the patches into the mandrake peoples hands, they could integrate it into their tool. Right now, I can build a reiserfs based system trivially with their file system config tool. partitioning is trivial (much better than fdisk/disk druid) file system atop the partitions are also trvial to specify (and are done at the same time you lay out the partitions).
