Work item list as of 7/11/2002

The outstanding work items for XFS for Linux are listed below, along with the proposed release of XFS Linux for which the item will be implented and the assigned owner for the item.

1. Real-time subvolumes

   The code is complete (via ioctl). Needs to be tested.

2. Multiple filesystem blocksize support for block size < page size

   Planned release: 1.2 (code complete in CVS)

   Owner: Nathan Scott

3. Make log writes stripe aligned for RAID-5 devices

   Both the log size and I/O size need to be parity group aligned. This is an issue for both internal and external logs.

   Planned release: 1.2 (code complete in CVS)

   Owner: Steve Lord

4. Zero unwritten extents

   This involves zeroing allocated unwritten disk space. There is currently a security hole here.

5. Multi-threaded direct I/O writes

   There is currently a single lock for this write path.

   Planned release: tbd

   Owner: Unassigned

Features that will not be implemented

1. Address the 2 TByte device limitation

   Block devices have a 2 TByte size limitation. Will wait for Linux to address this.

2. Multiple filesystem blocksize support for block size > page size



3. Guaranteed Rate I/O (GRIO)
