SGI XFS Linux Release 1.0
On May 1 2001, SGI made available Release 1.0 of its high-end XFS file
system for Linux. XFS for Linux version 1.0
works with a Linux 2.4.x-based kernel.

XFS Availability and Release Caveats
SGI XFS Linux Release 1.0 is available as a
patch
against linux-2.4.2 and linux-2.4.3.
XFS 1.0 is distribution-independent.
An
installer
for Red Hat Linux v7.1
is available today.
Other installers are under development in the community.
The Red Hat Linux installation media installs a Red Hat Linux v7.1 system
with XFS on root, or any other partition, right out of the box.

Installation Notes and Instructions
Because this release requires a 2.4.2 kernel, it may require some
updates to your system if you are currently running the 2.2.x series
kernels. Please see the latest
Linux 2.4 Changes document for details on the minimum levels of software
necessary to install and run a Linux 2.4.2 kernel.

Linux XFS vs. IRIX XFS
There are some minor differences in the implementation of Linux
XFS and IRIX XFS. These differences are summarized in

Quality Assurance
Extensive testing of XFS Linux 1.0 was done to ensure the quality of this
product.
The following configurations were tested:
- variety of hardware platforms
- SCSI
- Fibre Channel
- single spindle disks
- RAID disks
- devfs
- MD disk volume manager
- LVM disk volume manager
- high memory
- low memory
XFS passed the following test suites:
- fsstress test suite
- Regression Test System (RTS) file system test suite
- fstest (includes large file testing)
- bonnie
- dbench
- dump/restore
NFS testing:
- tested both NFS V3 and V2 over UDP
- tested as a NFS server with a variety of
clients using connectathon basic, special, and locking tests
- tested as a Linux client
