SGI XFS Linux Release 1.0

On May 1 2001, SGI made available Release 1.0 of its high-end XFS file system for Linux. XFS for Linux version 1.0 works with a Linux 2.4.x-based kernel.

XFS Availability and Release Caveats

SGI XFS Linux Release 1.0 is available as a patch against linux-2.4. XFS 1.0 is distribution-independent. An installer for Red Hat Linux v7.1 is available today. Other installers are under development in the community. The Red Hat Linux installation media installs a Red Hat Linux v7.1 system with XFS on root, or any other partition, right out of the box.

Installation Notes and Instructions

Because this release requires a 2.4 kernel, it may require some updates to your system if you are currently running the 2.2.x series kernels. Please see the latest Linux 2.4 Changes document for details on the minimum levels of software necessary to install and run a Linux 2.4 kernel.
