The Linux Test Project is SGI's answer to the question: "What tests are out there for Linux?" We will be releasing an ever growing collection of tools for testing and stressing the Linux Kernel and related features. These are all released under the open source (GPL) model. We hope you find them useful and will be interested in contributing changes or additions.

Our latest installment includes about 100 tests, a test driver, and a results scanning tool. The tests include file system stress tests from the XFS team and "quickhitters" that can be used to test kernel locking. The test driver supports running multiple tests in parallel with buffered output. The scanner understands the test driver's output format and prints a summary. The sources are available today for download. Simply unpack the tar file, and follow the instructions in the "INSTALL" file.

In the future we will be adding more tests and tools, as well as whole sets of tests, for various areas of the Linux Kernel. We'll also explain the simple rules we use to write tests, so that you can contribute too! Watch the FAQ and NEWS links for news and information about the Linux Test Project at SGI.
