XFS for Linux Release 1.1 supports x86 and IA-64
architectures.  It provides bug fixes and
general performance improvements to XFS
Linux Release 1.0.2.

XFS Release Caveats

Before installing the XFS filesystem for Linux,
you should look over the
<A href="1.1_caveats.html">XFS for Linux Release 1.1 Caveats</A> 
for a list of limitations, requirements, and special instructions
for this release.

XFS Installation
</font></h2>

Because this release requires a 2.4 kernel, it may require some
updates to your system if you are currently running the 2.2.x series
kernels.  Please see the latest
<a href="http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/kaboom/linux/Changes-2.4/changes24.html">
Linux 2.4 Changes</a> document for details on the minimum levels of software
necessary to install and run a Linux 2.4 kernel.

XFS Linux Release 1.1 is available through the following
distributions mechanisms:

<p><b>Source installation</b>
</p>
<p>
SGI XFS Linux Release 1.1 is available as a patch
against linux-2.4.18.
XFS 1.1 is distribution-independent.
</p>
<p>
For a source installation, you start with a "vanilla" linux-2.4.18 tarball
(linux-2.4.18.tar.gz, or linux-2.4.18.tar.bz2) and apply patches to obtain
an XFS-capable kernel. For XFS Linux Release 1.1
XFS comes as a single patch.  A KDB (built-in kernel debugger) patch
is also available.

You can download

the release 1.1 patch files</a>
for both x86 and IA-64
architectures.

RPMs based on Red Hat's kernel source
have been provided for Intel, AMD, and IA-64 architectures.

If you want to install a new system to run XFS Linux Release 1.1,
you can use 
the SGI XFS Filesystem 1.0.2 Release system installer,
available as an
<A HREF="ftp://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/download/Release-1.0.2/installer/i386/RH7.2-SGI-XFS-1.0.2.iso">ISO
image</A>.
You can then upgrade to XFS Linux Release 1.1 using the XFS 1.1 RPMs.
