As you can probably tell, SGI is focussing on 2.6, heavily.  We keep
the 2.4 part of the tree moving forward, but its a very low priority.

However, this EIO issue does sound alot like the sort of thing you
should be able to track down pretty easily yourself (with a few deft
printk placements...).  If you can narrow it down a bit (to the spot
that starts propogating EIO back out to userspace), that'd be a big
step towards fixing this.
