stack size usage

This is semi-off topic.  I was wondering if there was a way of 
determining how much stack space was in use at any given time?
My motivation is just to monitor kernel stack usage in an effort to 
avoid or at least anticipate the infamous 4k stack issues that plague 
RH/FC distros.
