if this is reproducable i would strace perl when it's doing whatever
causes this and see if it is related to a single file or group of
files then as eric suggested look at those with xfs_bmap -v

if they are really badly fragmented (p2p applications tend to so this)
then xfs_fsr filename1 [filename2 [...]] should address that assuming
your not down to the wire on freespace
