Yes, I think what happened was that I dd'd to the wrong drive by accident
since I was using Knoppix. /dev/hda wouldn't boot and that was all she
wrote! That was the reason for the reinstall.
I can run dd again on /dev/hdb1 as last night I ran xfs_repair on /dev/hdb1
to see what would happen and it made some changes so that's robably why
there isn't any VG information?
It won't be worth the time though if you don't think it's possible to fix
the VG if /dev/hd4, the initial part of the VG is missing and that I
wouldn't be able to recreate it anyway.
