And that assumes that you need to defragment your fs in the first place.

You can use the following command to check fragmentation:
xfs_db -c frag -r /dev/md0
replace /dev/md0 with the name of the device you want to check.
This is what the output will look like:
actual 184, ideal 176, fragmentation factor 4.35%
