so, how did you try to make the backup with "dd" then? and how did your
/etc/fstab work at all, if the device is not present?

what is /dev/hdb4?

please don't use "auto" for known filesystems. if it is "Ext3" filesystem,
use "ext3":

/dev/VGforMyth/video    /video          ext3    defaults        0 0
