Thread-topic: Trouble Patching
Hi,

I wondered if some kind soul could offer me some advice! I have spent a
lot of time searching the net for a getting started guide to installing
xfs support but haven't had much luck - therefore I may not be doing
things the best way. If you can point me in the direction of an idiots
guide, that would be great!

Anyway, the current problem I have is with applying the patch. I'm
running RedHat ES3 with kernel 2.4.21-27.0.2 (on a Dell server). I've
got the source for the kernel in /usr/src/linux-2.4 (Actually a sym-link
to a directory with the full kernel version as its name). I've
downloaded the kernel patch from the SGI site (
linux-xfs-1.3.1.patch). I gunziped the patch and copied to to the
linux-2.4 directory. Within that directory I then did:

patch -p1 < linux-xfs-1.3.1.patch

However, on a number of the files I got the following warning:

The next patch would create the file Documentation/filesystems/xfs.txt,
which already exists! Assume -R? [n]

I tried skipping them and I tried assuming the -R flag which told me:

1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file <and then the file in
question>

This happened to all the files not in the ./fs/xfs directory, ie,
./Documentation/filesystems/xfs.txt, ./fs/quota.c etc.

Despite this, I tried a 'make xconfig' but theres no mention of XFS
support in the Filesystems menu.

Thanks very much for reading, and if you can help, great! If you need
to know anything else, just ask. If I've submitted this question to the
wrong place, I appologise.

Simon
