Seems it wasn't that easy. When I removed the battery (it's a laptop) I got the panic even without 'quiet'. Might be a timing issue?

If I compile xfs into the kernel instead of having it as a module the system boots every time.

I've encountered a really strange bug that appeared in 2.6.9-rc3 (I previously had 2.6.9-rc2). I'm running FC2.

When booting the machine with the kernel parameter 'quiet' the kernel is unable to mount the root XFS partition. It just gives error 19, says something about trying to kill init, then panics.

Since 'quiet' is used I do not get any decent output. Removing the parameter makes the problem go away.

Without debug output I don't really know how to determine what's wrong. Perhaps someone who knows what has been changed recently can have some ideas?
