yes

to *try* to make a directory better if not don't mind the inode
changing do somehting like (can't be done whilst it's being accessed
though)

         cd parent/of/said/dir
         mv dir old-dir
         mkdir dir
         mv old-dir/* dir
         rmdir old-dir

which will create a new directory and move all entries over, with some
luck this will help create the directory in fewer fragments (compared
to having it grow slowly over time)
