Hi,

Just an off-the wall comment from an habitual lurker on linux-xfs: make sure it's not something really nasty, like an interaction between an IDE chipset and your hard drive. A Serverworks OSB4 chipset and a Seagate hard drive are a particularly nice combination in this respect.
