This error occurs both on RH7.3 using gcc2.96 and on Fedora usign gcc3.2.2. The
compiler options are:

-g -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE -D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64
-D_XOPEN_SOURCE=500 -D_BSD_SOURCE -Wall -Wno-sign-compare -Wunused
-Wno-long-long -pedantic -DQT_THREAD_SUPPORT -DQT_CLEAN_NAMESPACE
