actually cvs -d might set the repository path. definitely will not prune as
you want.
you want:
update -d -P
which will create new dirs that appear in the repository (-d) and then prune
empty ones (-P) on each update
and
checkout -P
which will get all directories of course, and then prune the empty ones (-P)
