Do the nfs people have any reason to claim this is an XFS
bug? or is it just a case of "blame a bug".

Since the problem is originating in nfs, that is were the debugging
will have to start.
If the nfs group can at least identify were the problem is originating
from it would be helpful in determining were the problem really exists.
