I'm not an xfsdump wizard, but let me try to clarify what happened.

Was the problem with xfsdump, or with the live filesystem?
Did the filesystem crash -while- you were running xfsdump?

Are you trying to restore a good backup after a system crash?

I'm not exactly sure what problem you are having.
