XFS 1.2.0 is pretty old by now.

Please try this with an XFS 1.3.1 kernel, or even CVS.  Changes have been
made to how data gets synced out.

On the other hand, you are abusing the system here a bit - writes are buffered,
and if you do :w! <poweroff> you almost certainly -will- lose data.  
You may well have copied & modified the new file before anything ever
got a chance to sync to disk.  And that's not really a bug.
