We're very interested in this patch, we just have not had the time
to fully vet it & get it applied to the tree.

If folks on the list who are interested in this sort of thing could give
it a whirl, and report experiences, it would be helpful.

In general, the patch looks like a good thing, I/we just need some breathing
space to really look at it before we apply it to CVS.
