BAckup your user data/etc

use mondo to backup the system image... http://www.mondoresue.org/

If it doesn't work out you can use the mondo to restore it...Just make sure 
you do mondoarchive -V, and your system can actually boot fromt he CD 
before you go wiping things out :)
