I had this problem with the 3ware card way back when. You can look for Bryan
Smith's message re XFS (1.02?) on the 3ware card. Basically, you are going
to have to:

1. Install with vanilla RedHat distro (not XFS Installer)
2. On your vanilla RedHat system, recompile the kernel with XFS and aic79xx
support
3. Reboot to the new kernel; drop to single user; move partitions around;
fix lilo
4. Reboot to you target system.

Instead of mastering this ballet, I found it much simpler to put the system
on a controller that the XFS distro (stock kernel drivers) supports and only
put data on the "exotic" controller (I have an XFS database volume running
on an Adaptec 39320, in fact; aic79xx v. 1.1.0 drivers; the system volume on
the machine with the 3ware card is still on a single SCSI disk, though that
should change "any day now").

Cheers,
        Murthy

Do you need "linux dd"? AFAIK as long as you only use kernel modules
from the RedHat distribution, you don't have to use a driver disk (dd)
at all. Did you try without dd?
