OK, thats convincing enough for me - I'll back that change out
for now and ponder it for awhile, see if I can see why this is
happening.

Is this on an IA32 machine (i.e. 4K pagesize)?  The default XFS
blocksize is always 4K.  I'm sure your machine is IA32, cos this
change only affects the case whether the blocksize is the same
as the pagesize.
