cvs checkout stalling

When I check out or update linux-2.4-xfs the checkout always stalls on 

U linux/scripts/lxdialog/yesno.c
cvs server: Updating linux/scripts/usb
<hang - cvs blocked in read from server, but server doesn't send>

Fresh checkout makes no difference.

That's towards the end so it may do some book kepping issue on the 
server. Does anybody else have these problems with CVS?
