I ment to say to backup the external log only after a clean unmount. So
the external log in that case is "empty". The only use is when
you loose your log device thus you can xfs_repair -L with logdev on the
backed up log (so we ignore the log contents anyway, if the system crashed
when you lost your logdevice then you will posibly loose some data there).

I tested this and it worked for me (I tested moving the logdevice on
different partitions/disks).
