I see many people used to dd but cp works very well too (dd has some other
cool features tho). I forgot to mention, that log backup should be done
between mkfs.xfs and the first mount (but probably should work after any
other clean umount).

Heh, realtime and DMAPI are in XFS for linux for some time now (since I
first got into XFS, arround 1.0.1 release). mkfs.xfs clearly is a new
version that knows about log version 2 but Im not sure your XFS part of
kernel does know that. For example, try to compile latest CVS or a 1.2
prerelease and boot it and see if it still complains.
