Please try a later version, your configure parameters in version 2.2.1 seem
to do the right thing.

However, some parts of the configure script may well be broken and the build
system could probably use some maintenance.  If anyone is good at this stuff,
please submit a patch.

This kind of work is going to be fairly low on the TODO list for a while.
However, it's a great candidate for community involvement...
