probably only 446 bytes since its most likly just the same first stage
loader as goes in the MBR, but im sure it assumes it has a full 1K to
play with in partitions since `they are always ext2'
it looks like its time for another patch to make grub check and refuse
to install on XFS partitions, i think it already checks filesystem
type, and its already aware of XFS, it just needs to be taught not to
stomp all over XFS.
