Ok, let's try this.

I semi-backported the "ilookup" functions from 2.5, which do the same as
iget_locked, but they don't create a new inode.

This should remove the need to try to "back out" of an inode creation.

The drawback is that it's more of a core kernel change.

I'll poke around a bit more and see if there's a more self-contained solution,
but I think the above method is the best way to go.
