Hi !

This is Sunil frm India. We are looking for a solution for the problem
of fragmentation caused during I/O transactions on the RAID file system
i.e.TP9400.

We need to know if :
1. SGI - XFS file system can do an on-fly defragmentation of the data ?

Yes

2. Is it unique to only SGI - XFS file system ?

The defragmentation utility is. Other filesystems can do it as well. But I am not familiar with those.

3. If so how will this happen?

Run the xfs_fsr utility to defragment your harddrive. Some people run this overnight in cron every day or week.

Cheers

It might just be your lucky day, if you only knew.
