You have several choices.
You could grab old cvs snapshot patches from
ftp://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/download/patches/2.4.17/
and apply them to your kernel.
Or, you could try backporting the 2.4.18-XFS 1.1 patch to 2.4.17, which
would probably not be too hard.
ftp://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/download/latest/kernel_patches/xfs-1.1-2.4.18-all.patch.bz2
Or, you could upgrade your ancient kernel. :)
