Do you use rsync in verbose mode? This was my problem some months ago when I 
had many crashes using XFS/rsync. Then I read this verbose thing on lkml (or 
was it rsync ML) and removing verbose option from rsync helped.

And of course, you didn't use the recommended compiler, did you? Have a look 
at 
ftp://oss.sgi.com/projects/xfs/download/Release-1.1/kernel_rpms/contributed/2.4.9-34-RH/
