For single processes and IDE disk is quite sufficient. When the filesystem
starts to get busy to disk is getting hopelessly slaughterd.
Dumping Norton Ghost disk images on IDE disks works like a charm. Dumping
lot's of small files on there is not such a good idea. The sequential
speed is really good.
It's amazing performance wise how far you can come with IDE disks these
days in various forms of raid, hardware of software.
