-----Forwarded Message-----
I installed Debian with a root XFS partition yesterday, but when I tried
to compile a new kernel (to put in SMP support), the system wouldn't
boot. It only got as far as
"Uncompressing the kernel.... OK, booting Linux"
then just hangs there. I then recompiled my kernel w/o any SMP support,
and I still got the same message. Both the kernel that came on the disk
and the one I'm trying to build for myself are 2.4.18 kernels. Any
ideas on why my kernel should be hanging at start up? I've had the same
machine for the last two years and have compiled at least a dozen
kernels, so I know how to compile one with SMP support that boots fine.
