Come to think of it, this is exactly what my experience bears out. The one
box I have with XFS+grub working has grub on the MBR, and the one where it
doesn't work...well, we've been through that.
I just went through the XFS FAQ again and found something else...particularly
concerning LILO. It has the same problem as grub--it can't be installed on
the bootsector of a root partition, because it overwrites the XFS superblock.
This is apparently a limitation of XFS; only reason it worked with lilo is
because I had lilo's bootsector residing on floppy.
