Hi there,
I'm running a Debian/woody system with Kernel 2.4.18-xfs-1.1. So far,
everything works very well. I have just one small problem: During
normal operation, only about 20% of my 512MB RAM are used by
processes, kernel and so on, the remaining memory is used for buffers
etc.
But whenver corn.daily executes the updatedb, memory usage increases
to about 60%. The used memory is not freed after updatedb terminates.
Using top or ps, I wasn't able to identify the process eating up all
that memory. Where can I start searching?
Well, this is a feature of the "new" VM.
Load some big apps (mozilla:) and see the shrinkage of the buffer cache.

Swap: 265032 40252 224780
In the morning this is normally around 80MB for me. When logging
into X, the machine happily throws the pages out and everything
comes back from swap sloooowly.
