Are you unable to create a new file after you've remounted the
filesystem, as well?  A fix went in fairly recently that handled
flushing out reserved space as the filesystem got full, but in that case
"df" would report no space left until a manual "sync" freed it up. 
Looks like your case is a bit different.

I don't suppose you could upgrade to a newer kernel?
