Hello all,

I have a 8 disk RAID 5 partition (8 X 9 GB) on a split bus Compaq array
that
currently has around 1 million files on it. Some tiny, some 5 MB.
Controllers
are Sym53C875 (non bootable compaq flavor).

Doing any kind of removal or listing seems to take waaaay too long, an
ls in a dir
with 200 files will take 5 seconds to return. :^/

Any thoughts on Kernel tuning/adjustment to speed this up? Its a custom
kernel with
the Sym53C875 parts in the kernel. IIRC, I was getting around 200
Interrupts per second
when doing some 'rm -rf' operations. Xsysinfo showed the IRQs for
Network card and
scsi controllers were pegged during NFS/Rsync load.

Machine Asus P2B-DS 2X 400 MHz, 256 MB RAM.

Thanks!

John W.

BTW- Had a power outage that put the array into a bit of a spin. When it
booted, it
stalled on mounting the RAID 5 partition, and one disk was marked as
bad...

I rebooted, and the array came back up, but one disk light was out...
marked as bad.

I did the addhotspare and it came back online (Phew!).
