This might be a little off-topic here, but anyway: as of Linux kernel
2.4.16, the 3ware driver being used in the kernel is v1.02.00.010. This
doesn't work with the .20 3dm, though. A new one is scheduled to be
released on Feb 7.

If you're willing to try things out, you might be interested in doing a
fresh CVS checkout. The various changes that have gone into both the core
kernel as well as the XFS portion may somehow fix your problems.

I wonder if it's XFS locking up because of the strain that high loads on
GbE can cause, or if it's a problem with the kernel and your e1000 NIC
(somehow?). As I've never gone beyond 100Mbps, I wouldn't know how "life
on the truly fast lane" feels like.

But my 3ware 6400 running RAID5 (I know, slow, bad choice, but it's a tad
too late to take things apart to go RAID10) has been quite stable. It's
been regularly updated and is running a CVS checkout done 20020112 (PHT)
with RML's preempt-1 patch. Loads vary, but the most "intensive" part is
when I do snapshots of the home and data shares using tar, storing the
data on same array (to prevent against user error more than system
failure). If that's indicative of anything, anyway. I'm not sure it is.
