bsdlabel and xfs on alpha

Hi,

I am trying to use xfs on alpha, however there are some problems with
lost disklabel. I have created a disklabel with one partition for entire 
disk. Then I formatted the drive and mount it. However in this case the 
disklabel is lost. I have to recreate it and then restore xfs with 
xfs_repair. xfs_repair destroys the disklabel, but I can still mount
the partition. 
Is there something overlaping between the label and partition? 

I run 2.4.17 on RH7.1 with xfsprogs-1.2.7
